Composting Association Has Grant-Funded Technical Assistance To Compost Flood-Damaged Crops

The Composting Association of Vermont (CAV) is pleased to announce the availability of grant funded Technical Assistance for farmers with flood-damaged crops.

Assistance under this grant may be provided by phone or in person depending on need. It can be for any aspect of managing a compost pile that is made up largely of flood-damaged crops. Issues that technical support is available for include: siting, recipe development, pile management and troubleshooting.

Removing excess crop residue from fields to a nearby site for composting allows farmers to control the decomposition process that can destroy pathogens and contaminants. When the process is complete, the finished product can return beneficial, composted organic matter to crop fields.

Technical Assistance for composting flood-damaged crops is free and is provided on a first come, first served basis. Funding for this project was provided by Concept 2 in Morrisville, Vermont.

To request assistance, please contact Pat O’Neill by phone or email: info@compostingvermont.org, 802-744-2345. Please provide your name, farm location, phone number(s) and email address if you have one.

A two-page fact sheet, Composting: A Post-Flood Crop Management Option is also available to download from the CAV website: compostingvermont.org.
