Aspiring Farmer Compost Operator Training Workshop

Calling all young and aspiring farmers!
The Aspiring Farmer Compost Operator Training Workshop is designed for students currently enrolled in agricultural programs. Workshop participants will gain valuable and desirable agricultural skills to take to farms or compost operations they may start or work at.
This Compost Operator Certificate is recognized by the State of VT Agency of Natural Resources for composters required to obtain a solid waste permit for handling food scraps.
This daylong workshop is focused on operator competency in compost management and regulatory compliance, and includes a dynamic combination of lectures, demonstrations and hands-on exercises designed to ensure an effective combination of operator understanding and application.
Topics covered include:
- principles of composting,
- compost site identification and layout,
- compost recipe development,
- feedstock combining methods,
- windrow construction,
- pile monitoring,
- windrow aeration,
- aerated static pile composting,
- mortality composting,
- compost screening,
- site and operating permit requirements, and
- testing and reporting requirements
Come join us for an immersion in composting and an opportunity to connect with other aspiring farmers in the region!

Time: Registration begins at 7:30
Workshop begins at 8am and ends at 4:30pm
Cost: $10; no one is turned away for lack of funds
